Welcome to Out Addiction Interventions
Research has shown that the impact of homophobia, prejudice and discrimination experienced by the gay and lesbian population is reflected in one way by a higher than average incidence of drug addiction, alcoholism and even suicide.
Shame has been identified as a major component in one's addiction. Many in the gay community have faced and internalized shame throughout their lives, adding to the emotional burden on which substance abuse thrives. We recognize that the addiction cycle is already riddled with fear and turmoil. The road to recovery should begin with a step away from fear, and for many in the gay community a gay-friendly atmosphere is a vital first step to casting away the burden of their tumultuous past.
